5. Do you have a Mac version?
| |
|
Although we don't develop software specifically for the Mac, there are several options that Mac users can choose to work with our software. If you also have PC users with the unit, using one of these options also provides a significant advantage. Since our software comes with a site license for the whole unit, running our software using an emulator (or with Windows directly) enables everyone with the unit (PC and Mac users) to use the same program and to share the data files between the separate machines.
Web-based Solutions
We now offer a web-based interface to our software that can be accessed by any internet-connected machine. This can allow Mac users to connect to the unit database and either view or update data which can be synchronized with the main program database by the database administrator. Please click here for more information on either our TroopMaster Web or PackMaster Web solutions.
Windows Emulators
We also have a number of Mac users who run our Windows products under various Windows emulators. Also, many of the new Mac's can run the Windows O/S directly in addition to OSX.
For more information on these options, please visit the following sites:

Windows Emulators
Although we don't develop software specifically for Linux, we do have a number of Linux users who run our Windows products through an emulator. The following emulators have been reported to work properly with our program:
Wine - Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix. For more information on Wine, please visit their website at: http://www.winehq.org/. You can also click here for more details of implementation under Wine.

7. What is ScoutNET 2000?
| |
|
ScoutNET 2000 is a nationwide computer system being implemented by BSA that ties all of their council offices together on a wide-area network (not the Internet). Data on scouts and adult leaders can then be tracked nationally. If a scout or leader moves to a new area, his data will already be there. Troops and packs using BSA certified unit-level software will be able to submit recharter, additional enrollment, and advancement reports electronically--initially on diskettes. TroopMaster and PackMaster were the first programs to pass ScoutNET certification testing.

8. How can I tell if I need to download a program update?
| |
|
Check your Help>About dialog--if your version is earlier than the version number listed for your program on this web site, please download and run the free update.
|
|
9. How do I install a program update?
| |
|
It's very easy to download and install a program update, and it's very important that you learn to do it because that's how most software companies are making the latest version available to their users. In the past, users just had to live with whatever bugs were present until the next major version of the software was released. Program updates allow users to always have the cleanest possible version of the software.
First, compare the version on your program's Help>About dialog to the current update number for your program shown on our web site. If the update is newer, you should install it.
The recommended method is to click on the update and then open/run it from our web site instead of saving a copy to your hard drive. The update will automatically find your existing program and update it.
If you prefer to download the update, select the Save option. Your browser will ask you where you want to save it--we recommend that you NOT save it to your main program folder because if you choose that folder and you point it to the main program file, you will REPLACE the program with the update. Instead, save it to a temporary folder on your hard drive. Then, locate the update via Windows Explorer or My Computer, and double-click on the update to run it. The update will automatically find your existing program and update it.
Many of our program updates can also be saved to a single diskette. If the single-file update is too large to fit on a diskette, you may need to copy the file to a CD or you can use WinZip or a similar program to split the file across multiple diskettes. Having the update on CD or diskette(s) makes it easy to give copies to other leaders who are using the software.
Each leader using the software must install the program update. Simply giving another leader a set of backed up data files will not update that leader's program.
If you've missed installing an earlier update, don't worry. The most recent update ALWAYS includes all of the changes from previous updates. In other words, if you are running V2.00b, installing a V2.00e update will implement both the V2.00c and the V2.00d changes.

|
10. What if I missed a program update?
| |
|
If you're a update or more behind, don't worry. The most recent update always includes the changes from all of the earlier updates. In other words, the most recent update is the only one you need.

|
11. How do we reregister the software to a new leader?
| |
|
You just need to email us with the name, mailing address, and email address of the new point of contact for the software. Please also mention the previous owner's name.
|
12. Our council/district is conducting training on how to use your software. Do you have any training materials that might help?
| |
|
13. We are looking for new ideas for fundraisers to help raise money for our unit. Do you have any ideas?
| |
